When I look at pictures like this:
and this:
both taken at an absolutely gorgeous July 14 wedding at the Bay Creek Resort on the Eastern Shore (seriously, folks, if you have an event you need help with there, call me. I LOVE Bay Creek - and the food and folks are heavenly), I am tempted to fall into the trap that clearly all of the editors of the big magazines have tumbled into...I'm tempted to equate "destination" wedding with "beach" or "tropical exotic".
Oh, and I suppose, as someone "confined" to the ambience of the Historical Triangle (Colonial Williamsburg, Revolutionary Yorktown and Discovery-Era Jamestown), I might be more easily swayed towards seeing the ultimate destination as having towering palm trees and fruity mixed drinks.
But, it takes only a moment of flipping through my files to remember that all wrapped up in a convenient, easily accessible mid-east coast gem, and tied up with ribbons of 300-year-old brick and mortar, dotted with european-style landscapes and "sunken gardens", we have in Williamsburg the ultimate backdrop for a destination wedding.
Want sweeping vistas? Waterfront casual elegance? A historic space steeped in a tangible air of reverance and solemnity? Sanctified space? Roller-coaster-fun space? Williamsburg has it all. We have world-renowned resorts - regular hosts to presidents and dignitaries. We have historic B&Bs - the kind where you're greeted by name every morning, and your favorites quickly appear on the breakfast table and in your suite un-requested. We have death-defying drops, perfect for the adventurous rehearsal dinner site, paired with some of the most sought-after tee times and courses in the world. We can easily accommodate your party of 10, and have the resources and experience to host your cast of "thousands". Williamsburg is a friendly town, with fife & drum music in the air, and canons blasted respectfully on a busy summer day. And once a year, we'll even change the color of ALL of our leaves just for you - the truly perfect backdrop for your engagement or bridal photo.
Anyone can go to the beach to get married (in fact, we have our share of waterfront spaces if you're willing to drive a litte). You'll find it a lot more difficult to match what we've perfected as classic historical opulence with a contemporary twist, though. Visit Williamsburg - and maybe get married while you're here. =)
