I've Been Tagged
Wedding coordinators are a tightly knit, geographically challenged family. As such, we play games - I know, not terribly mature, but it's what we do. (I'd venture a guess that even physicists have their own version - although the math would be far, far beyond me).
I've been tagged by my illustrious colleague Isis Petrie and the fabulous Daisy Pagan, and instructed to reveal five songs that I love, but am embarrassed to admit to.
Now, the really sad truth is that I have such weird musical taste, that I was a high school Barry Mannilow fan (and no, I'm not old enough for that to be remotely normal) and I've been a die-hard Mandy Patinkin broadway fan since I can remember (trust me, there's a reason you're asking yourself "wasn't he on Chicago Hope"?). I've seen them both in concert (Barry - multiple times). When your tastes vary widely enough to include a 70s disco icon 20 years too late, and a man whose voice shouldn't reach octaves that high without physical pain, you're not real sensitive about your musical preferences.
Oh - I also saw Phantom of the Opera 7 times and almost died when I was finally in line to see Michael Crawford and found out he was sick, only to be replaced by the unbelievably amazing Robert Guillaume. Wanna venture a guess at how popular I was in high school?
That said, here are five songs that I can't live without, that maybe aren't among my proudest choices:
1. Sweet Home Alabama: I can't help it. I tend to believe that a great reception isn't truly great until it's been played at least once. Not that I'm not regularly over-ruled by my clients (of course...not my wedding), but I assure you I'm secretly disappointed.
2. Last Dance: the disco version - same deal. I know, I should repent.
3. Save the Last Dance for Me: the crooner version - should I remind you I chose to be a wedding planner for a reason?
4. Copacabana: You HAD to see it coming from my earlier Barry remarks.
5. Delicate (Damien Rice): The only embarrassing thing about loving this song is the number of times a day I play it. It was a super-cool bride, Merideth, three years ago who sparked my appreciation for Rice's music, and the song was featured in the 2nd or 3rd season of Lost (the reason I don't know? I watched them all in a row over the course of 5 weekends, next episode please!). I'm not sure I can physically get through the day without Delicate, thus my confession.
So that's it. As always, I imagine I have the most mortifying list based on my evident wacky taste, but I'm fine with it! The two girls who made my life most miserable in high school have a scary amount of kharma to deal with, and that's enough for me. =)
Who to tag? How about the extremely busy (so I understand if there's a delay) Kristin at I Do Originals, Isha Foss of Isha Foss Events (thought I'd give it a try - at least look at her Dora party pictures - too cute!), and Meredith at Elegant Engagements (who I imagine has already been tagged, popular gal). Tag. You're it.
