We'll Hitchhike, Bus or Yellow Cab It
Cab it? Movin' Right Along...if you caught the Muppet Movie reference from the title of this post, I love you. Big time. If not you probably were not alive, or not sober in the 70s, but I'll let it go this time.
There are a lot of rumors about liability and serving alcohol at parties. From discussions I've had with other event pros and attorneys, the liability issue is ambiguous at best. However, most agree that providing a safe means of transportation post-party is a wise choice to make, and of course I whole-heartedly agree.
What do you do if the expense of a shuttle or bus is too far out of your budget? I recommend contacting a cab company in advance of your reception and asking if you can make special arrangements to have a number of cabs "on call" or at least close by for remote receptions. You can arm the DJ and your coordinator with the phone number for your chosen cab company, and he or she would usually be delighted with the offer.
Just be sure to be safe and have a plan!
Happy planning.
