Summer weddings are coming up quickly, and in certain regions guests may experience uncomfortable heat and downright dangerous conditions during the events. To make sure your celebration is heat tolerant, consider some of these heat-beating options:
1. Pretty Parasols: not just for shade, these inexpensive paper umbrellas will contribute comfort and a nice photo opportunity:

2. Tents: Not just for rain anymore! If you have an outdoor cocktail hour, or even an outdoor ceremony, consider tenting for shade, and you may save your guests from incredible discomfort and unfortunate tan lines.
3. How about some cool matching sunglasses for the bridal party during photos?

4. Treat your guests to ice cold personalized bottles of water while they wait:

5. Keep your cake safe from direct sun exposure or indirect heat exposure. Choose the shadiest possible outdoor location if necessary, or an indoor one if possible. Also, make good decisions: consider cupcakes or small cakes for each table so they can be stored inside and served at the last-minute. Remember that buttercream frosting is NOT your best bet if you are having a warm-weather outdoor reception. Neither, incidentally, is ice cream cake (couldn't resist).
6. Finally, minimize your guests' exposure to the sun with good planning. Create a specific post-ceremony posed portrait list to avoid the endless cocktail hour. Have an "extreme heat" plan just like you would a "rain plan". Keep a first aid kit available including bottles of water, and have a reliable friend keep an eye out for early signs of heat stress or exhaustion. Make your guests' comfort and safety a priority and you'll have a fantastic event!
Happy Planning!
